Reach Out and Read Arkansas Sponsorship of Arkansas Literary Festival a Success
Reach Out and Read Arkansas successfully sponsored the Arkansas Literary Festival this year by providing books and reading to almost 100 parents and children.
The Central Arkansas Library System’s main library, in the downtown Little Rock RiverMarket area, allowed Reach Out and Read Arkansas to reach families of children from throughout Arkansas and in areas of downtown, east and south Little Rock. In the children’s reading area of the library on the third floor, Reach Out and Read Arkansas was able to make participation accessible to children and families who may not otherwise had the opportunity.
“We were very happy with the success we saw in our first year as a sponsor of the Arkansas Literary Festival,” said Stacey Sells, consulting director of Reach Out and Read Arkansas. “Pediatricians and other doctors stepped up and donated books in both English and Spanish making it this event special for all who attended.”
Readers included Stacey Margaret Jones, Conway-based author of the new novel, Mr. Catherine; Jay Ruud, author of the Merlin Mystery Series of books; Dean Skip Rutherford, of the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Affairs; and Jeff Williams, a writer and editor for Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
